Donato Lanni as an agent for SF Racing, Starlight Racing and Madaket Stable went to $525,000 to acquire Hip 1322, a Florida-bred colt by Kentucky Derby-winner Nyquist out of the stakes-placed Quality Road mare Oola Gal during the fifth session of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale Saturday. Consigned by Eaton Sales as agent, the colt is from the family of multiple Grade 1-winner Strategic Maneuver and was bred in Florida by Peter Vegso’s Vegso Racing Stable.

Second in the 2018 Barely Even at Gulfstream Park, Florida-bred Oola Gal was a homebred for Vegso. She has three other foals including an unnamed 3-year-old colt by Nyquist; Miss Ocala, an unraced 2-year-old filly by Hard Spun; and a weanling filly by Nyquist. She was bred to Up to the Mark in 2024.

Vegso purchased second dam, Geisha Gal, for $180,000 as a weanling at the 2009 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale and saw her earn $121,365 from two wins in 11 starts with a second and two thirds.

Five other Florida-bred yearlings sold for six figures on Saturday including Hip 1406, who went to John Ballantyne and NBS Stable for $180,000. The dark bay or brown filly is by Maclean’s Music out of stakes-winner Southern Girl, by Tapit. Southern Gal is a full sister to Grade 2-winner Marconi and a half-sister to multiple Grade 1-winning Florida-bred millionaire Mucho Macho Man and stakes-placed Mucho Mans Gold. The filly was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency as an agent for John Malone’s Bridlewood Farm, who is also the breeder.

Hip 1272, a Florida-bred colt by Vekoma, sold for $150,000 on a final bid from Equinox Inc., as agent for George Sharp. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency as agent, the colt is out of Maymont, by Unbridled’s Song, a half-sister to Euro Platinum. The colt was bred in Florida by Dominque Damico.

Hip 1188 sold for $120,000 to Little Red Feather Racing and bloodstock agent John Dowd. The Florida-bred filly is by Omaha Beach out of Gardenista, by Curlin and was consigned by Eaton Sales as agent. Her second dam is multiple graded stakes-winner Valbenny (Ire) and she was bred in Florida by Dominque Damico.

Two other Florida-bred yearlings garnered bids of $110,000 each.

Hip 1197 is a chestnut daughter of first crop sire Essential Quality, winner of the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, Grade 1 Belmont and Grade 1 Travers. She is out of Grade 1-winner Gomo, by Uncle Mo, a half-sister to stakes-producer Gentle Caroline and was purchased by Dennis O’Neill. She was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency as agent for breeder Bridlewood Farm. 

Hip 1302 is a chestnut filly consigned by Francis and Barbara Vanlangendonck’s Summerfield that went to Eddie Woods as agent for Michael Rucco. The chestnut filly is by Good Magic out of My Best Ten, by Hard Spun, a half-sister to Grade 2-winner Ramazutti and graded stakes-producer Kentucky Belle. The filly was bred in Florida by George and Karen Russell’s Rustlewood Farm Inc
