Nuck Chorris won at first asking at Turfway Park Saturday, taking a maiden special weight for 3-year-old auction graduates going six furlongs on the all-weather course. Trained by Michael Maker for Resolute Racing, the son of Uncle Chuck came from last of seven to win by a length under Walter Rodriguez.
Nuck Chorris was slow to get started from post one as Tom’s Cruising set the pace with jockey Vincent Cheminaud. Nuck Chorris raced about three-and-a-half lengths behind Tom’s Cruising through quarter mile in :22.23 and was still last after a half mile in :45.63. Rodriguez took Nuck Chorris seven-wide turning for home then hustled the bay gelding to the front late. Jolted was second with Yes Chief third.
The final time was 1:11.02 and Nuck Chorris paid $9.06 to win.
Out of the Super Saver mare Nautical N, Nuck Chorris was bred in Florida by Brent and Crystal Fernung. The Fernung’s sold Nuck Chorris through their Journeyman Bloodstock Services consignment to Resolute Bloodstock for $35,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Select Yearling Sale in July of 2024.
