On Saturday, El Potente worked for the first time at Santa Anita since being scratched from the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile on May 25. Trained by Dan Blacker, El Potente worked four furlongs on the synthetic training track in 50.60 seconds. The multiple Grade 3 winner was the second choice on the morning line for the Shoemaker Mile, which was ultimately won by Formidable Man, the favorite on both the morning line and at post time.
El Potente is by Temple City out of the stakes-placed Florida-bred mare Charmsil, by Silver Charm and was bred in Florida by Marilyn and Mike Bianco’s Charmsil LLC. El Potente was the last foal and first stakes-winner out of Charmsil, who has five winners from nine starters and 10 foals.
He is a graduate of the 2021 Ocala Breeders’ Sales June Sale where McMahon and Hill Bloodstock as agent purchased him for $35,000 out of the Nice and Easy Thoroughbreds consignment.
