A colt by first crop sire and Grade 1 Preakness-winner Early Voting brought $410,000 from Greg Compton as agent for MAG Racing Stables to top the first day of the three-day Ocala Breeders’ Sale June Sale of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age. The sale will continue Wednesday and Thursday with each session starting at 10:30 a.m. EDT.

“He’s a good looking individual, he had a great breeze and the stud is off to a great start,” Compton said. “It’s pretty simple. He looks like he has a bright future. He might get a little break for 30 days and then get him back going again. [The price] was a little more than we thought, but he’s a really nice individual.

“If you want a nice horse, you’re going to have to pay for it.”

Consigned by Julie Davies as agent, Hip 168 is out of the winning War Front mare Cara Dura and is from the family of Grade 2-winner Exchange Rate, Grade 3-winner Sabre D’Argent, Grade 3-placed, stakes-producer Cable and stakes-producers Chief Secretary and Cross Channel.

“I have been a fan of Early Voting since the yearling sales. You can ask anyone who knows me, I’ve been harping on about Early Voting,” Davies said. “This is a nice horse. Obviously, he’s fast, he’s pretty. I think this sale if you bring the right horse here, if you bring a good horse here, then there are plenty of buyers.”

Hip 93 sold for $370,000 to Donato Lanni as agent for Frank Fletcher Racing Operations out of the Envision Equine as agent consignment. The bay filly is by first crop sire Mo Donegal, winner of the Belmont Stakes (G1), out of the stakes-placed Valid Expectations mare Bakken Baby and is a half-sister to stakes-placed Expect the Boss.

“She looks very fast,” said Lanni, who added the filly would head to the barn of Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert. “Frank [Fletcher] is an Oaklawn guy and he likes Churchill so we’re going to look at running her there.

“We love the June sale. Every horse here has a story, that’s why they’re here.”

Morplay Racing went to $330,000 to acquire Hip 239, a Practical Joke filly consigned by Caliente Thoroughbreds as agent. She is out of winner Danceformunny, by Munnings and her second dam is stakes-winner Royal Song Dancer, by Langfuhr.

“For us, this was the nicest filly on the grounds,” MorPlay Racing’s Cam Dulgar said. “We didn’t really want to leave without her. She scoped clean, the physical was all there for us. Obviously, she laid down a pretty good breeze but it was the way she did it, being the size she is. We think she could be a special horse. We knew she was going to be a standout here.”

Hip 192, Jamoca Shake, went for $300,000 on a final bid from Greenwell Thoroughbreds. The gray or roan filly was consigned by Tom McCrocklin as agent and is by Uncle Mo out of the stakes-placed Cuvee mare Chocolate Pop. The filly is a half-sister to multiple graded stakes-winner Airoforce, stakes-placed Sharp Smile and stakes-producer Sweet Force.

Hip 220, Global Leader, also sold for $300,000 going to Bill and Corinne Heiligbrodt out of the Tom McCrocklin consignment. The filly is by Uncle Mo out of the stakes-placed mare Corey, by First Samurai. Corey is a half-sister to Grade 3-winner Happy Farm, stakes-placed Good Fight and stakes-placed Top Blue.
