Super Freaky Girl will try to keep her unblemished record intact when she takes on stakes company for the first time Saturday in the $100,000 Blue Sparkler for 3-year-old fillies at Monmouth Park. Owned by Eric Nikolaus Del Toro and Troy Johnson, Super Freaky Girl is one of three Florida-bred fillies entered in the five-and-a-half-furlong contest on the turf along with Hopesndreams and Glorious Lady, who is on the also eligible list.
Super Freaky Girl also makes her turf debut after winning her first two starts on the Gulfstream Park synthetic course. She won a five-furlong maiden special weight for fillies by three lengths on May 10 and a first condition allowance for Florida-bred fillies at five-and-a-half furlongs by length on June 1.
Super Freaky Girl is by Bucchero out of Deceptive Glory, by Honour and Glory and was bred in Florida by Superbad Stables LLC and Martin Wickens.
She was purchased by Johnson for $19,000 at the 2022 Ocala Breeders’ Sales October Yearling Sale where she was consigned by Colin Brennan Bloodstock. She has earned $66,300 in her two starts.
Trainer Carlos A. David has given the riding assignment to Luis Rivera Jr. and they have post three. Super Freaky Girl is the 4-1 second choice on the morning line.
Florida-bred Hopesndreams enters off a third-place finish behind winner and Blue Sparkler rival Pacific Rose in a first condition, $20,000 optional claiming for fillies and mares going six furlongs at Monmouth Park on June 28.
Owned and trained by Mike Dini, Hopesndreams last won aganst $25,000 starter allowance, optional claiming fillies going six furlongs at Tampa Bay Downs on April 10. She has one race against stakes company, finishing third behind Mystic Lake in the $100,000 Stonehedge Farm South Sophomore Fillies for Florida-breds going six furlongs at Tampa Bay Downs on March 24.
Hopesndreams has won four times in 12 career starts with three seconds and two thirds while banking $112,235. She is by Ride On Curlin out of Exchangeable, by Exchange Rate and was bred in Florida by Helen and Joseph Barbarzon.
Joe Bravo has the mount on Hopesndreams and they have post six. Hopesndreams is 10-1 on the morning line.
Tiffany Gold is also undefeated in two starts and invades from Florida with trainer Victor Barboza Jr.
The chestnut daughter of Speightstown won her first race on the Gulfstream Park synthetic course against $50,000 maiden optional claiming fillies on April 12. She then won a first level, $75,000 optional claiming by five lengths sprinting five furlongs over the Gulfstream Park turf on May 12.
Tiffany Gold is owned by Lean Entertainment LLC and is the 2-1 morning line favorite. She will be ridden by Paco Lopez from post four.
Completing the Blue Sparkler field are Pacific Rose, who will be ridden by Madison Oliver; Tiger Belle (Ire) with jockey Samy Camacho, El Terreno and pilot Jairo Rendon, Jean Alvelo rides Discreet Ops, Shuangzi (Ire) has Vincent Cheminaud taking the call and Laconia with Samuel Marin aboard.
Four Florida-breds have won the Blue Sparkler including Beauty of the Sea last year. Fearless Leader won the inaugural Blue Sparkler in 2009 followed by Feel That Fire (2011) and My Place Anytime (2013).
