Bidding is now open for the Major Reduction of Harris Farms on Fasig-Tipton Digital. The auction will take place over five days, closing this Tuesday, Aug. 19 beginning at 5 p.m. EST.
Ninety entries are catalogued as part of the reduction of leading California owner and breeder John C. Harris. Harris participated in all aspects of the Thoroughbred business, which included standing many of California’s leading sires throughout the years. Harris passed away at the age of 81 in July.
The reduction consists of breeding and racing stock. Included in the catalogue are:
- Nu Pi Lambda (Hip 50): By City Zip, she is a half-sister to Deterministic, winner of the Manhattan S. (G1) and Fourstardave S. (G1) this year. Nu Pi Lambda is offered in foal to Deterministic’s sire Liam’s Map.
- Hennys Crazy Train (Hip 51): Grade 2 placed earner of more than $300,000 carries her first foal by multiple Grade 1 winner Epicenter. She is out of a half-sister to graded stakes winners Independence Hall and Black Onyx, and stakes winner Francois.
- 24 mares offered with foals with foot.
- 40 horses of racing age, including unraced two-year-olds being prepared for their career debuts.
All offerings are being sold with no reserve.
“We are honored for Fasig-Tipton Digital to be entrusted with the reduction of Harris Farms,” Leif Aaron said. “Mr. Harris, a pillar of racing for more than four decades, spent his life developing these families, which have consistently produced top-quality runners since he assumed leadership of his family’s stable in 1981.”
Alone or in partnership, Harris campaigned the likes of Soviet Problem, California Horse of the Year who finished second in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint; Unzip Me, a multiple graded stakes winner who finished third in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint; Grade 1 winner Alphabet Kisses; and graded stakes winners Closing Remarks, Lucky J.H., and High Standards, among many others.
Since the year 2000, Harris runners have won 695 races for earnings of more than $22,000,000.
