A colt by first crop sire Beau Liam equaled the Ocala Training Center track record of :20.20 for a quarter mile work Saturday during the fifth and final day of under tacks works previewing the Ocala Breeders’ Sales June Sale of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age.
The OBS June Sale will be conducted Tuesday and Wednesday next week with each session beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Consigned by Omar Ramirez Bloodstock as agent and cataloged as Hip 829, the record setting colt is the first 2-year-old to clock a :20.20 quarter mile since a pair of fillies did so during the 2024 OBS Spring Sale. One of those fillies was Cash Call, winner of the Grade 3 Summertime Oaks at Santa Anita on June 6. Florida-bred Nooni, a daughter of Ocala Stud’s Win Win Win and winner of the 2024 Sorrento (G3) at Del Mar, worked a :20.20 quarter mile during the 2024 OBS March Sale.
The Beau Liam colt is out of the winning Lemon Drop mare Sweetnsour Kitty and is from the family of Grade 2-winner Feverish.
“This colt is just a special horse. He does everything naturally,” Omar Ramirez said. “He just goes over there and does his thing. I’ve had a great under tack show overall. All my babies responded well and have come back good and are looking good.
“I told Jimbo Gladwell [of Top Line Sales] this morning ‘I’ve got a good one coming out. I was expecting 20 and 3, 20 and 4 and if I was really lucky, 20 and 2. But 20 and 1, that’s amazing. He’s just a great colt. I knew the work was going to be good. I knew he was going to be the bullet, whatever the bullet was today.
“One of my riders told me to send this horse a quarter because he keeps going, he’s not going to stop. He’s ready to run.”
Two juveniles worked an eighth mile in :9.80 Saturday including Hip 831, is a Florida-bred filly by Pleasant Acres Stallions’ leading first crop sire Leinster. Consigned by Steven Venosa’s S G V Thoroughbreds LLC as agent, the filly is out of the winning Concord Point mare Sweetsweetsweet, a half-sister to stakes-winner Concealedwithakiss. She was bred in Florida by SGV and Bulldog Racing.
Also working a furlong in :9.80 was Hip 754, a bay filly by first crop sire Yaupon out of the stakes-placed mare Shine Softly, by Aldebaran. The filly is a half-sister to stakes-winner The Grass is Blue and her second dam is champion Soaring Softly, winner of the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
