Florida breeders Helen and Joe Barbazon will be rooting for Florida-breds Bayou Brigid and Little Torch on Saturday in the $75,000 My Dear Peggy Stakes going one mile on turf at Gulfstream Park.

By Pleasant Acres stallion Neolithic out of Courageous Cajun by Treasure Beach (GB), Bayou Brigid comes off a two-month layoff after finishing sixth in her last time out at Saratoga on Aug. 27 in the P.G. Johnson over the inner turf at a mile and a sixteenth.

Previously, the two-year-old filly finished first in a maiden special weight on Aug. 8 at Gulfstream after driving three wide down the stretch pulling away to win by two-and-a-quarter lengths on the all-weather track. The race was originally scheduled for the turf.

She was fourth over the Hallandale oval on June 20 and was second on May 23 after running four wide in the stretch. Her last breeze came on Oct. 13 over four furlongs posting :49.28. Her previous breeze was one of the top breezes at that distance on the day with a :48.89 on Oct. 1 over the Gulfstream Park dirt course.  Trainer Heather Smullen co-owns the horse with Sea Warrior Stables LLC.

Little Torch is also by Neolithic and is out of a Handsome Mike mare Here Comes Jackie. The filly posted her first win last time out in four starts under trainer/owner Joseph C. Catanese III. On Sept. 5, she won a maiden claimer at the track after leading the race wire to wire. She was unchallenged winning by one-and-a-half lengths on the all-weather track, originally scheduled for the turf. She ran for a $35,000 tag but was not claimed.

They face a full field of 11 going one mile on the turf.
