HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – Abdul Rahim Jasim, a leading jockey in Bahrain, rode his first winner in the U.S. Friday, scoring aboard Worth Considering in Gulfstream Park’s opener.
Jasim finished second in the jockey standings for the 2024-2025 racing season at Bahrain Turf Club before venturing to Gulfstream, where he had one mount before breaking through aboard the Tareq Moubarak-trained 3-year-old filly in the mile $12,500 maiden claimer for fillies and mares.
“I’m feeling over the moon. I’m really happy. I’ve been working for this moment for a long time. I’ve been coming to this country for the past four years,” said Jasim, whose only other race experience in the U.S. came aboard two mounts in Southern California last year. “I’ve been struggling to get races. Today is my first win.”
The 30-year-old jockey will be returning to Bahrain next month for the 2025-2026 racing season at the Bahrain Turf Club but plans to return next summer.
Worth Considering ($6), winless in her first seven starts, pressed Florida-bred pacesetter Reign in My Heart along the backstretch and around the far turn before moving to the lead on the turn into the homestretch and drawing off to win by three-and-three-quarters lengths.
