Second in her first race when jammed by a rival in the stretch of a maiden special weight for fillies at Hawthorne in June, Florida-bred juvenile Liams Fancy improved with clear sailing in her second race Sunday to win by five lengths at Hawthorne. Trained by Larry Rivelli and ridden by E. T. Baird, Liam’s Fancy trounced three other 2-year-old maiden special weight fillies going four-and-a-half furlongs, taking the winner’s share of the $30,420 purse.

Liams Fancy was quickest from her inside post but gave way momentarily to fellow Florida-bred Citra Closeout to her outside. Citra Closeout came in on Liams Fancy past the half-mile marker, forcing Baird to check Liams Fancy and lose two lengths before Baird took her to the outside to get at Citra Closeout again around the turn. After a :23 flat quarter-mile split, Liams Fancy galloped to a short lead with the field turning for home four across the track before Baird gave her a cue three-sixteenths out. Liams Fancy easily cleared her three rivals in the run to the wire, winning in :52.41 on the fast track. Moldovanka was second, three quarters of a length faster than Greatway in third with Citra Closeout fourth. Aint Having It, My Chickadee and Rapid were scratched.

Favored at 1-5, Liams Fancy and paid $2.60 to win.

Liams Fancy is by Liam’s Map out of Charlie B, by War Chant was bred in Florida by Nicksar Farms. Nicksar receives a $3,000 Export Incentive from the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association for the out-of-state win.

A half-sister to multiple stakes-winning Florida-bred Uncashed, Liams Fancy has now earned $24,000 for Vince and Patricia Foglia’s Patricia’s Hope Stable of Chicago.
