Lea Farms homebred Tipsy Mojo broke circle dueling leaders coming out of the turn then kicked clear in the stretch to win a five-furlong maiden special weight by four-and-a-half length at Monmouth Park Sunday. Ridden by Chantel Sutherland for trainer Jorge Delgado, Tipsy Mojo defeated three other 2-year-olds to earn the $27,000 winner’s hare of the $42,750 purse.

With the out-of-state victory, the bay son of Bolt d’Oro also earned a $3,000 Export Incentive paid by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association to Lea Farms as breeders.

Tipsy Mojo broke best from the outside post but Sutherland allowed him to settle two lengths to the outside of dueling leaders Even Up and Final Minute, who went the first quarter mile in :22.81 on the fast track. Tipsy Mojo went after the two frontrunners around the turn to draw even past the quarter pole then sprinted clear in the stretch to finish in :58.91. Even Up was second, a length-and-a-quarter faster than Final Minute in the show post. Blue Warrior was fourth.

Tipsy Mojo was the only starter with experience, having finished third in a four-and-a-half-furlong maiden special weight won by stablemate Regent’s Park at Monmouth on May 25. Tipsy Mojo now has earnings of $29,100 in two starts.

The bay colt is out of the winning Uncle Mo mare Slightly Tipsy, who has three winners from five starters and six foals. A half-sister to stakes-placed Drip Brew, Slightly Tipsy has an unnamed Florida-bred yearling filly by Florida-bred Lightning Larry, also bred by Lea Farm.
