A poor start compromised her chances last out in the Willa On The Move but High Schticking Thoroughbreds’ Bailintin returns for another attempt at her first stakes victory in the $100,000 Carousel Stakes at Laurel Park on Saturday. The 4-year-old Florida-bred filly trained by Rodolfo Sanchez-Salomon stretches out to a mile-and-one-eighth against 10 other fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and older.
A winner of two of eight starts in 2025 with two seconds, Bailintin has been within two-lengths of the lead at the second point of call in both her wins this year. Her last victory came against second condition, $50,000 optional claiming fillies and mares two starts back going a mile at Colonial Downs on July 16. She also won a first-tier allowance race over a muddy and sealed seven furlongs at Laurel in Feb. 7.
She was given a four-month break after the July score, coming back in the six-and-a-half-furlong Willa On The Move run over a muddy and sealed track on Nov. 22. A slow start had her five-and-a-half-lengths back after a half mile before she tired to finish fifth.
Jockey Tais Lyapustina, who has ridden Bailintin to two victories including the allowance triumph in February and in a $36,000 claiming in December of last year, has the mount for the Carousel after not riding her in her last two races. They have post seven.
Bailintin has won four times in her career with three seconds and nine thirds in 27 starts while eanring $188,460. She was a $52,000 purchase by Smart Angle out of the 2023 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Spring Sale where she was consigned by Boutte Sales.
She is by Girvin out of Mandolin, by Midnight Lute and was bred in Florida by Belveder Farm.
Complexity Jane tries for her second consecutive stakes victory after winning the $100,000 Thirty Eight Go Go in her last start on Nov. 9.
Trained by Brittany Russell for Golden Lion Racing, the 3-year-old filly won over a wet-fast mile-and-a-sixteenth after taking over from Di’s Surprise in the backstretch. She opened up to win by three-and-a-quarter lengths ahead of runner-up Doctor Abbie for her second stakes victory and fourth in six career starts, all this year.
Also a graduate of OBS, the daughter of Complexity was a $170,000 selection by Sycamore Hall Thoroughbreds out of the Scanlon Training and Sales consignment at the 2024 March Sale of 2-year-olds in training. She has earned $215,600.
Sheldon Russell will ride Complextity Jane from post four.
Rounding out the field are Sultry Lass with jockey Kendrick Carmouche, Arnaldo Bocachica has the mount on The Sky is Falling, Late Night Call will have Xavier Perez in the irons, Martin Chuan will guide Audibly, no ride has been named on Di’s Surprise, Secret Journey has Yan Rodriguez taking the riding assignment, Lute Warm with Jevian Toledo up, Dr. Abbie and rider Angel Cruz and Yedsit Hazlewood will have the reins on Intrepid Mo.
