After being eased last out in the $200,000 FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes Affirmed at Gulfstream on Oct. 18, Tonch’s Horses’ Florida-bred Camigol looks to return to better form when facing five other 2-year-olds in Saturday’s $75,000 Juvenile Sprint at Gulfstream Park.
Graded stakes-placed earlier this year when third in Ewing’s Saratoga Special (G2) going six-and-a-half furlongs at Saratoga Race Course on Aug. 2, Camigol was also second to Fourth and Central in the $100,000 Dr. Fager, the six-furlong first leg of the Florida Sire Stakes on Sept. 6 at Gulfstream.
After finishing second to Fourth and Central in his debut at Gulfstream on May 31, the bay colt was impressive in winning his second start, taking a four-and-a-half-furlong maiden special weight by nearly six lengths at Gulfstream on June 26 before graduating to stakes competition in upstate New York.
Camigol is by Pleasant Acres Stallions’ Neolithic out of Daddy’s Pride, by Scat Daddy and was bred in Florida by De Luca and Sons Stables Inc. Trained by Antonio Sano, Camigol has racked up $90,200 in his five races.
Emisael Jaramillo will ride Camigol from post three.
Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher sends Local Knowledge to Gulfstream from his barn at Palm Beach Downs training center in Del Ray Beach, Fla., after winning his debut, a six-furlong maiden special weight at Keeneland on Oct. 4.
A $625,000 purchase by Spendthrift Farm out of the Hoppel LLC consignment at this year’s Ocala Breeders’ Sales Spring Sale, Local Knowledge has already banked $62,233 in his lone start.
His is by first crop sire Yaupon out of the Scat Daddy mare Chestnut Street, a half-sister to multiple stakes-winner Saratoga Snacks.
Local Knowledge will break from the outside post six with John Velazquez in the irons.
Also entered are Thunder Chuck with jockey Miguel Vasquez, Strategic Reserve with Micah Husbands up, Edgard Zayas rides Hammond and Rammas with Edwin Gonzalez taking the riding assignment.
