Amaty Racing Stables’ Florida-bred Tululo came from near last to nose out odds-on favorite Emerald Ember and win Thursday’s second race at Gulfstream Park, a $70,000 maiden special weight for 2-year-old fillies going five furlongs on the turf. Ridden to victory by Emisael Jaramillo for trainer Jose Gallegos, Tululo won in her first career start at odds of 13-1 and paid $29 to win.

Tululo broke from post eight in the field of 11 and was mid-pack on the outside in the first furlong before dropping back to tenth and nearly seven lengths behind front-running Florida-bred Triple Threat.

Longshot Chispuda used a ground-saving trip to shoot to the front coming out of the turn but was chased down by Florida-bred Emerald Ember in mid-stretch with Tululo just beginning to pick-up horses on the far outside.

Emerald Ember went to the front in the final sixteenth when Tululo appeared suddenly to nab the favorite at the wire in :56.51 on the firm turf. Emerald Ember was second, a length-and-a-half faster than Chispuda in third. Hot Cocoa completed the Florida-bred superfecta followed by Fire On the Wire, St. Brigid’s Cross, Miami Style, Triple Threat, I Love Ines, La Esperanza and Ripple.

Tululo is by Girvin out of Cajun Queen, by Closing Argument and was bred in Florida by the owner. She is fully eligible for the lurative FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes series to be run later this year at Gulfstream.
