C2 Racing Stable, Ian Parsard, Shining Stables and Stefania Farms’ Florida-bred Neoequos was put through some supplement training Wednesday at Churchill Downs as trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. prepares him for a start in Saturday’s $5 million Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve (Grade 1).
After galloping over the main track at 7:15 a.m., a scheduled he has kept since arriving in Louisville, Ky., Saturday from his base in South Florida at Palm Meadows Training Center, Neoequos spent time standing in the Churchill Downs starting gate to complete his morning training. Joseph later took the son of Pleasant Acres Stallions’ Neolithic to the Churchill Downs saddling paddock to accustom the bay colt with those new surroundings.
“All good, we’re ready,” Joseph said to the Churchill Downs press team Wednesday.
Neoequose is out of Bold Birdie, by Birdstone and was bred in Florida by Helen and Joseph Barbarzon and Matalona Thoroughbreds LLC. He is a graduate of the Susan Montanye’s early training at her SBM Training and Sales in Ocala.
Neoequos was a $22,000 purchase by Joseph at the 2023 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company October Yearling Sale where he was consigned by Lisa McGreevy’s Abbie Road Farm.
Set at 30-1 on the morning line, Neoequos was listed at 53-1 on the live wagering section of the TwinSpires.com website at press time Wednesday afternoon. Those odds had dropped from 65-1 Tuesday night.
