After missing his first stakes victory by a head in his last race, Florida-bred Global Legend makes his next start Saturday in Keeneland’s fourth race, a first condition, $100,000 optional claiming for 2-year-olds at a mile-and-a-sixteenth. Trained by Mark Casse for KEM Stables, Global Legend is the 7-2 third choice on the morning line in the field of seven.
Global Legend went head and head with Crazy Frazy through the stretch run of the $201,000 Sapling at Monmouth Park on Aug. 21, but could not get by the eventual winner, finishing second after a mile-and-a-sixteenth.
That was Global Legend’s second attempt at stakes company after the Grade 2 Saratoga Special, finishing sixth behind winner Showcase going six-and-a-half furlongs at Saratoga Race Course on Aug. 10.
Global Legend was a three-length winner of a state-bred maiden special weight over a sloppy four-and-a-half furlongs at Gulfstream Park in June.
Bred in Florida by Dominique Damico, Global Legend is by Global Campaign out of Im a Dixie Diva, by Henny Hughes. The dark bay or brown colt has earned $76,000 in his three starts.
Global Legend sold for $80,000 to Machmer Hall at the 2023 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Winter Mixed Sale when consigned by Fly By but did not meet his reserve in this year’s OBS March Sale when consigned by Old South Farm.
Casse has named Jose Ortiz to ride Global Legend Saturday and they have post two.
Also looking to break through against stakes company is 8-5 morning line favorite Jack’s Time for trainer Kelly Von Hemel.
A nearly 11-length winner on debut against special weight maidens at Prairie Meadows on Aug. 10, the son of Not This Time could do no better than sixth in her next effort on Sept. 14 in the Grade 3 Iroquois won by Jonathan’s Way.
Jack’s Time is by Not This Time out of Msbrooklynbrawler, by Into Mischief and has earned $29,952 in two races.
Luis Saez will ride from the outside post seven.
Rounding out the field are Righteous Star and jockey Colby Hernandez, Robert’s Moon with Adam Beschizza up, Authentic Strike will be ridden by Tyler Gaffalione, Thrilla and rider Jareth Loveberry and Brian Hernandez Jr. rides Look to the Cross.
