FTBOA registered Florida-breds by Registered Florida Stallions are eligible for substantial purse and race incentives plus the $1.2 million 2-year-old stakes series at Gulfstream Park.

About the Florida Sire Stakes Program

FTBOA registered Florida-breds eligible to the Florida Sire Stakes may compete for selected race purses or added incentives at Florida racetracks. Racing year 2024 opportunities include:

Gulfstream Park –

  • $20,000 FSS Win-Place-Show Bonus on restricted stakes
  • $5,000 win bonus per 2yo maiden special weight
  • $5,000 win bonus per maiden special weight, allowance or handicap
  • $50,000 FSS added in $100,000 Gil Campbell Memorial, October (date tbd)
  • $100,000 FSS added in Florida Derby, $50,000 FSS added in Gulfstream Park Oaks
  • $1.2 million 2yo Florida Sire Stakes series
    • September: $100,000 Desert Vixen, $100,000 Dr. Fager
    • October: $200,000 Susan’s Girl, $200,000 Affirmed
    • December: $300,000 My Dear Girl, $300,000 In Reality

Tampa Bay Downs –

  • December (date tbd): $100,000 FTBOA City of Ocala FSS Stakes (f&m, 3yo-and-up, 7f)
  • December (date: $100,000 FTBOA Marion County FSS Stakes (3yo-and-up, 7f)
  • $260,000 total purse bonuses in Tampa Bay Downs open stakes

Florida Stallion Registrations

Activate and sustain (with annual renewal) stallion owner eligibility for FTBOA Stallion Awards and establish foalcrop eligibility for Florida Sire Stakes racing incentives.

Stallion (for foals of 2025): February 15, 2024
Extended Stallion (for foals of 2025): August 1, 2024
Last Chance Stallion (for foals of 2025): November 15, 2024

Bought an FSS Yearling?

A horse may be listed as eligible in a sales catalog because the deadline was not missed at that point. Check to make sure the yearling payment was paid (use the search linked below) or contact FTBOA at 352-629-2160. Note there is still a 2YO payment also due.

2-Year-Old Sustaining: January 15, 2024 ($250) or February 28, 2024 ($500)
2-Year-Old Standalone: January 15, 2024 ($5,000)
2-Year-Old Last Chance: May 1, 2024 ($10,000, unstarted 2yo’s only) 

Foals of 2023:
Yearling: May 15, 2024 ($250) or November 15, 2024 ($500)
2-Year-Old Sustaining: January 15, 2025 ($250) or February 28, 2025 ($500)
2-Year-Old Standalone: January 15, 2025 ($5,000)
2-Year-Old Last Chance: May 1, 2025 ($10,000, unstarted 2yo’s only) 

Foals of 2024:
Yearling: May 15, 2025 ($250) or November 15, 2025 ($500)
2-Year-Old Sustaining: January 15, 2026 ($250) or February 28, 2026 ($500)

All terms of Florida Sire Stakes (FSS) races, including the number of races, purse levels, race conditions, racing dates, and the host track, may change from year to year and may change at any point after the FSS racing schedule for a particular year is announced.

Out-of-State Foal Eligibility

Out-of-state foals are eligible to participate in FSS stakes races under the following conditions:

  • The horse must be sired by an FTBOA-registered Florida stallion that has paid double the FTBOA Florida stallion registration fee for the year the foal was conceived.
  • All FSS eligibility payments must be made for the horse, at a rate double what would otherwise be paid for an FTBOA-registered Florida-bred, per the FSS payment schedule.
  • The horse will race for 50% of the purse in each FSS stakes race.
