New stallions on parade

Florida-bred Vineyard Haven - Mccue PhotoJourneyman Stud and Stonewall Farm Ocala hold open houses and stallion shows today

The two largest stallion farms in the area are holding open houses and stallion shows today. Brent and Crystal Fernung’s Journeyman Stud will hold their annual stallion show starting at 11 a.m. Journeyman Stud is home to 14 stallions including Florida-bred Vineyard Haven and J P’s Gusto who are new for 2012. Stonewall Farm Ocala boosting 17 stallions is having an open house from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. New stallions for 2012 at Stonewall Farm Ocala include Florida-bred Big Drama, Causeway’s Kin, General Quarters, Hull and Motovato.

Wildcat Heir, Florida’s leading sire of 2010 and 2011, resides at Journeyman Stud. The son of Forest Wildcat had progeny earnings in excess of $5 million last year. Also at Journeyman is the two-time reining leading Florida jFlorida-bred Big Drama - Palmer Photouvenile sire Awesome of Course. The son of Awesome Again accomplished his titles with limited runners on the track. His leading earner in 2010 was Eclipse champion Awesome Feather and in 2011 was Florida Stallion Stakes winner Fort Loudon. Journeyman Stud stands three of the top five freshman sires of 2011. Saint Anddan was the second leading freshman sire with progeny earnings in excess of $500,000. He was followed by Exclusive Quality in third and Teuflesberg in fifth.

Also standing at Journeyman are Circular Quay, Cowtown Cat, Hear No Evil, Indy Wind, Kiss the Kid, Mass Media and Sweet Return (GB).

Leroidesanimaux (BRZ), sire of the Eclipse champion 3-year-old colt Animal Kingdom, headlines the stallion roster at Stonewall Farm Ocala. The son of Candy Stripes was the second leading sire in Florida in 2011 with his chief earner being Animal Kingdom, who won the Kentucky Derby (G1). Stonewall Farm Ocala is the largest stallion farm in the region with 17 stallions. Two new additions this year attracting interest are Florida-bred Eclipse Champion Sprinter Big Drama and popular millionaire General Quarters. Stallions are available in all price ranges at Stonewall from Frisco Star at $500 to Leroidesanimaux at $25,000.  
Also standing at Stonewall Farm Ocala are A.P. Warrior, Burning Roma, Da Stoops, Doneraile Court, Greatness, It’s No Joke, Spellbinder, Strong Contender, Unforgettable Max and Value Plus.
