Florida-bred Old Midleton looked anything but old in winning the $67,480 Jose Celso Barbosa Stakes at Camarero Rack Track in Puerto Rico on Monday.
The 7-year-old gelding by Ocala Stud Farm stallion Concerto crossed the finish line second but was promoted to first place when Torpedo Run was disqualified for interference.
Bred by Alachua’s Dianne D. Cotter, Old Midleton was ridden by Juan C. Diaz and is trained by Jesus Cartagena Jr. for owner Establo Mera Oyeee. He’s won 12 of his 40 starts and earned $315,277. He was an $80,000 purchase as a 2-year-old at OBS in April 2005.
Old Midleton, out of the Deputed Testamony mare Hurry Home Hillary, is a full brother of Florida-bred Bellamy Road, who won the 2004 Cradle Stakes (G3) and the 2005 Wood Memorial (G1). Bellamy Road now is a stallion in Kentucky.
