Journeyman Stud stallion Mass Media got his first stakes winner Sunday at Lincoln Race Course when Florida-bred Alert the Press cruised to a 5 ¼-length victory in the $29,350 Capitol City Futurity.
Bred by Ocala’s Cheryl Hurn and owned by trainer Rodney L. Davis, the 2-year-old gelding has won both of his starts and earned $22,110. Alert the Press captured a $7,000 maiden special weight race by 5 ¾ lengths at Lincoln on July 10.
Alert the Press paid $9.60 for a $2 win bet Sunday after covering six furlongs in 1:15 3⁄5 with Chris Fackler aboard.
Mass Media, the winner of the 2005 Forego Stakes (G1) and an earner of $569,740, stood at Brent and Crystal Fernung’s Journeyman Stud in Ocala for a $2,000 stud fee this year. Through Tuesday, he was ninth in the nation among first-crop sires with $95,701 in progeny earnings, having gotten four winners from his first seven starters.
