FLORIDA THOROUGHBRED CHARITIES
Florida Thoroughbred Charities is a non-profit organization and the charitable arm of the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders' and Owners' Association. FTC is committed to strengthening both the industry and community through its annual fundraising events. Since 1990, FTC has raised more than $4 million for recipents that include educational organizations in the state and community, groups that benefit area families and children, and organizations that benefit the equine industry.
Through the efforts of the FTBOA, OBS and FHBPA, the Florida Thoroughbred Retirement Farm aims to offer a home to every Florida-bred horse that retires from the racetrack. The farm provides good character-building inmate training for both men and women inmates at the Marion and Lowell Correctional Institutions, and provides a haven to these once heroes of the track while preparing them for second careers or adoption. The Florida farm opened in 2001.
