Peter Vegso
Peter Vegso, president of Health Communications Inc., and publisher of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books, first became involved in racing through limited racing partnerships in the mid-1980s with Gary Seidler, who is also his partner in Health Communications. Racing as Five Star Stable, Vegso had success with such horses as graded stakes winner Bay Street Star and stakes winners Express Star, Turf Star and Star Jolie.
In the name of Rocking Horse Farm, Vegso bred stakes winners Press Type and Sweeping. He raced the latter pair with Seidler as G & P Enterprises. Vegso established his own farm, The Racing Edge, in 1995 in Ocala. Among the notable race horses Vegso has bred and or races are Florida-bred graded stakes winners Silver Tree and Orchard Park, who are full brothers. Vegso has also been represented by Florida Champion Splendid Blended, Go Between, Snug Harbor and Tacirring.
A graduate of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Vegso started Health Communications in 1976. With a focus on the self-help and inspirational genre, HCI has published several New York Times best-selling books including “A Boy Called It” and the phenomenally successful “Chicken Soup for the Soul” book series. The original “Chicken Soup for the Soul” was first published in 1993 and currently there are more than 50 titles in the series, including two editions of “Chicken Soup for the Horse Lover’s Soul.”
Vegso resides in Boca Raton, Florida with his wife, Anne. He has two daughters, Melinda and Haley.
