MICHAEL O’FARRELL, JR.
Michael
O’Farrell Jr. owns and operates the historic Ocala Stud Farms. In addition
to being a breeding, boarding and training facility, Ocala Stud is one of the
leading commercial breeders and consignors of two-year-olds in training. In
2003, Ocala Stud sold Chapel Royal for a record-setting $1.2 million at the
OBS February Sale at Calder Race Course.
A perennial
leading Florida commercial breeder, Ocala Stud has either solely or in various
partnerships bred more than 100 stakes winners. Recent stakes winners include
Florida-bred champions Three Ring, Shake You Down and Chapel Royal and current
graded stakes winner Beacon Shine.
A prominent
stallion station for four decades, the 2005 roster included Concerto, Concorde’s
Tune, Drewman, Mecke, Montbrook, Outofthebox, Slew Gin Fizz, Sweetsouthernsaint
and Trippi.
Ocala Stud
Farm registered 43 Florida-bred foals in 2004. All Ocala Stud stallions are
nominated to the Florida Thoroughbred Charities Stakes.
A past FTBOA
director and officer, O’Farrell currently serves as Vice President of
the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company and President of the Florida Thoroughbred
Political Action Committee.
